Which membership category is right for you? Join our international community of trade mark professionals.

Allied

For UK barristers, solicitors and other lawyers with two or more years’ experience engaged in the work of a trade mark attorney.

To apply you need:

  • To be a UK barrister, solicitor or other lawyer (as set out in the Legal Services Act 2007) engaged in practice as a trade mark attorney
  • Two years’ full time practice in the field of IP
  • The support of two CITMA corporate members (Fellow or Ordinary)

Associate

For those with an association to the trade mark attorney profession, members include those providing support functions such as watching or search services

To apply you need:

  • To be associated with the trade mark profession
  • The support of two CITMA corporate members (Fellow or Ordinary)

CITMA Paralegal

For those in support and advisory roles including trade mark administrators, paralegals and advisors who have passed the CITMA Paralegal Course

To apply you need:

  • To have passed the CITMA Paralegal Course
  • The support of two CITMA corporate members (Fellow or Ordinary)

Please note that it is a requirement of CITMA Paralegal membership to participate in our CPD scheme.

Fellow

For Registered Trade Mark Attorneys who have made a significant contribution to CITMA and achieving its goals.

To be considered to become a Fellow you need to:

  • Have been an Ordinary member for at least five years
  • Be sponsored by at least three members, of which at least one must be a Fellow
  • In the opinion of CITMA’s Council have contributed significantly to CITMA

Ordinary

For Registered Trade Mark Attorneys. By joining this category you can use the title Chartered Trade Mark Attorney.

To apply for Ordinary membership you need:

  • To be a qualified trade mark attorney and listed on the Register of Trade Mark Attorneys in the UK.
  • Have the support of two CITMA corporate members (Fellow or Ordinary)

Overseas

For those practising in the trade mark attorney profession outside the UK and not on the UK Register of Trade Mark Attorneys. We currently have members from over 70 countries.

  • To be qualified outside the UK and practising or engaged in the trade mark profession or work for a trade mark attorney outside the UK.
  • Have the support of two CITMA corporate members (Fellow or Ordinary)

Student

For aspiring trade mark attorneys seeking to become a qualified trade mark attorney.

To apply you need:

  • To be working towards qualifying as a trade mark attorney
  • The support of one CITMA corporate member (Fellow or Ordinary)

Joining process

Once you have completed your application form, we will check that everything is in order, and we’ll ask for any extra information if required.

Your application will then go forward to our Executive Committee and Council for election as a member.

If approved, you’ll formally be a member and you will be able to take advantage of our extensive benefits.

The process normally takes no more than two weeks and we will keep you updated throughout.
