IP Inclusive will be hosting a panel discussion followed by audience Q&A, focussing on the theme of Overcoming Invisible Barriers. This theme is inspired by the book “THE FIX: Overcome the Invisible Barriers that are Holding Women Back at Work” by Michelle King(2021). King’s book is based on more than 16 years of research, and explores the hidden factors that women encounter at work every day, but may not even notice because of ingrained gender stereotypes. King explains that women who speak up or assert themselves are often seen as pushy, and women who ask for a pay rise can be seen as difficult. However, she is very clear that fixing women isn’t the answer. She says “Gender equality is not about women, and it is not about men – it is about making workplaces work for everyone. Together, we can fix work, not women.”

The panel speakers will tackle these topics around diversity and inclusion initiatives, women in leadership and workplace culture through the lens of their personal experiences. The event will also explore how we (everyone – women, and allies including men) can help to solve some of the problems in the workplace that we hear so often about, in practice.

Meet the Panel

The discussions will be moderated by Stephanie Kay, Managing Associate, Lewis Silkin LLP, and the panellists include:

The panel discussion will be hosted in London, followed by the opportunity to network and discuss the topics raised. So that those not based in London can also benefit from in-person networking, there will also be in-person events in multiple other locations at the same time. Those attending the in-person regional events will watch a live stream of the panel discussion, and will then be able to chat in-person to discuss the topics raised over light refreshments. There is also the option to watch the panel discussion remotely from your own device, wherever you are.

The Book

Michelle King’s book is available on Amazon here. There is certainly no requirement to read the book before the event, although if you get the chance, it will likely inspire you to learn more! Michelle King’s website has many useful resources, and she also hosts a weekly podcast which you may enjoy listening to.
