CITMA President recognised for her influence in IP
Kelly Saliger, CITMA President, has been named one of the 50 most influential people in intellectual property (IP), by news publication, Managing IP.
Kelly was awarded the prestigious slot in the Managing IP 50 alongside fellow presidents, Matt Dixon, of the UK-based Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), and Hazel Tunney, of Ireland’s Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (APTMA).
The award recognises the strengthened collaboration between the organisations and the benefits that brings.
On its website, the IP publication praised the trio of industry leaders, “[they] have worked hard to foster collaboration between three national IP representative bodies, as well as advocate for their own jurisdictions’ interests.”
It added, “This collaboration will strengthen the voice of IP professionals and enhance the ability of the associations to advocate for their members.”
On an individual level, Kelly can be seen as a driving force for positive change and ways of working. The publication noted that Kelly has helped CITMA maintain a healthy dialogue with the UKIPO regarding its address for service rules for trade mark applications.
Speaking about what the accolade means to her, Kelly said, “I’m honoured to be recognised as one of the 50 most influential people in intellectual property. This achievement is not just a personal one, but a reflection of the collective efforts of all those within CITMA and its volunteers in the IP community.
“My colleagues at CIPA and APTMA make it easy (and fun) to collaborate, as we work together to advocate for the interests of our members and drive positive change within the industry. I’m particularly proud of the progress we’re making in respect of extending our networks outside of London (and hopefully with some events and visits in Ireland next year) and more widely the work we’ve been able to join efforts on as the new Minister has moved into post.
“I look forward to continuing this work as we enter the new year, and building greater networking opportunities for all career levels as we mark the 5-year anniversary of Covid and reflect on the change that it brought for both the profession and our everyday lives.”
Hazel Tunney, APTMA President, spoke about forging closer links between the associations, “Henry Ford said of collaboration that 'Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success'. My experience of collaborating with Matt and Kelly (and CIPA and CITMA) has been exactly that, combined with genuine pleasure in dealing with such fantastic people and organisations.
"I look forward to the, deepening, and broadening our collaborative efforts over the coming year(s), perhaps over a pint of the Black Stuff, here in Ireland…”
Elsewhere, diversity and mental wellbeing were also important factors in choosing who made the cut this year, with several individuals helping to bring these issues to the forefront of the industry.
The annual list was revealed earlier this month by Managing IP and recognises those who have had a significant impact on the industry, with various themes playing a role in the decision process.
