As more and more businesses make use of online marketplaces and platforms, the importance of trade mark protection in e-commerce is greater than ever.

Online marketplaces offer access to a far wider and more international audience than traditional commerce but may also be more challenging to regulate.

In order to counter this, many major platforms offer tools through which brand owners can notify them of infringements and be kept up to date on the outcome of their claims.

This offers brand owners more confidence that they can operate safely in the online space.

It also protects consumers, who can have greater confidence in the products they buy and use online.

13 major online e-commerce sites, including Amazon, eBay and Facebook, have provided the EUIPO with information on which brand protection services they offer, and how trade mark holders can contact them.

The EUIPO has compiled this information, which can be accessed here.
