Trade mark attorneys get stuck in at Vauxhall City Farm
A team of trade mark professionals gave it their all at Vauxhall City Farm as a part of our Spring Conference.
Alongside staff from the farm and members of the CITMA team, the trade mark attorneys helped with the preparation of the farm’s community garden ahead of landscaping work.
The community garden has been in development since May 2020, supported by a small grant from Lambeth Council.
In response to significantly above average levels of childhood obesity in Lambeth, along with a widespread lack of access to garden space, the farm hopes to offer children in the area knowledge and confidence in small scale agriculture and nutrition.
James Yow and Peter Byrd, both from Charles Russell Speechlys, commented on their volunteering session at the farm, explaining:
“It was a great opportunity to connect and reconnect with contacts in an informal way, outside of the confines of the usual conference room.
“Even with the rain, the opportunity to get out of the office and provide a little help to a fantastic organisation while catching up with contacts was good fun and really rewarding.
“It is so important to give something back and support these organisations that do so much good for their communities but are also so dependent on their amazing volunteers and corporate support too.”
In addition to supporting a healthier approach to nutrition and democratising access to garden space, the community garden project will contribute to the area’s biodiversity: volunteers and families will learn to grow different vegetables, flowers and herbs.
The opening of the garden will allow the farm to open an extra quarter of their space to the public.
We are currently working to support the trade mark industry’s journey towards a more sustainable future.
Projects like this one allow our members to contribute meaningfully to the work which needs to be done outside the borders of our profession.
We would like to thank Vauxhall City Farm for facilitating our volunteering session.
