Adam Williams has been appointed as the UK IPO’s Chief Executive following an interim stint in the role.

Adam Williams, who took over from Tim Moss in an interim capacity in September 2022, has been confirmed as the permanent Chief Executive and Comptroller-General of the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) following a “highly competitive open recruitment process, that included candidates from inside and outside Government.”
Prior to his recent appointment, Mr Williams was the UK IPO’s Director of International Policy from September 2017, having first joined the UK IPO in 2009.
Adam has previously worked for the UK government on defence policy matters and has extensive experience dealing with policy issues in the EU, UN and NATO as well as undertaking bilateral negotiations.
Rachel Wilkinson-Duffy said: “We would like to congratulate Adam on his appointment. We have met Adam on several occasions over the past few years and have enjoyed working closely with him.
"We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the UK IPO under his leadership on a number of important issues and initiatives that will help keep the UK as a world-renowned IP hub.”
Adam Williams said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed as the Intellectual Property Office’s CEO at this exciting time in our organisation’s history.
“We will continue striving to ensure that the UK’s IP environment remains one of the best-regarded in the world, helping unleash the opportunities of the future as we deliver on our ambitions.
“I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the IPO’s Executive Board to deliver best-in-class services for our customers, to the maximum benefit of Great British creativity and innovation.”
